The Requirement:
This large NHS Trust required full learning materials for the in-house delivery of a bespoke web-based software package for registering, tracking and target-setting in relation to newly diagnosed patients. Effective use of the software would enable the hospital and the local health community to provide a more efficient service and meet Department of Health targets. Having been designed in-house the clinical information system needed to be rolled out and in use very quickly.
The Solution:
Within a tight timescale it was necessary to learn how the system worked and needed to be utilised by end users. Working with the developers to understand the structure and capacities of the package, we firstly developed the User Support Manual consisting of a detailed step-by-step guide to using all aspects and features of the system, from Login to Logout.
A trainer's presentation was also required together with comprehensive notes. The aim was to enable almost anyone with a base knowledge of the system and its purpose to deliver a high quality of training to users whose technical skills would be varied. With the right resources, this should always be possible.
From our experience we know that few people learn purely by watching and listening to someone else, particulary when it comes to the skills based area of IT. We therefore delivered a detailed training plan, building in practical scenarios and exercises to enable users to practice skills in a safe, controlled demonstration environment.
The Outcome:
With the training package in-hand and delivered, the Delivery Management team at the Hospital had freed time to work towards targets elsewhere and had a comprehensive, varied and flexible ready-to-go learning solution to rollout on time for this and future training requirements.
